Create a cute cake when you throw a baby shower.

When you are throwing a baby shower for a friend or family member, consider baking the cake yourself rather than purchasing one from a bakery. There are all sorts of classic, traditional baby shower cakes from which to choose. Try to coordinate the cake with the color scheme or decorations you have chosen for the baby shower. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Baby Blocks

    • Consider creating a cake that looks like a baby block. Bake three square cakes and stack them with frosting between each layer. Then, frost the whole cake and pipe a letter or a number onto each side and the top. You can also make small, miniature cakes by cutting squares out of a sheet cake and frosting them similarly. That way, every guest gets their own cake.

    Baby Blanket

    • Bake a rectangular sheet cake and decorate it so that it looks like a baby blanket. Use different frosting colors to create squares on the cake. Simply leave the squares colored or draw something different on each one using frosting, such as rubber duckies or baby rattles. You could also pipe letters onto consecutive squares to create a message, such as "Welcome Baby Jackson."

    Gift Box

    • Another classic baby shower cake idea is a cake shaped like a gift box. You can do this a couple of ways. Bake three square cakes and stack them so that they create a tall cube. Alternatively, stack two rectangular cakes so that they create a box shape. Frost the cakes in pink or blue frosting, depending on the gender of the baby. Top the cake with a fondant bow for a traditional look.

    Baby Shoes

    • Using baby shoes as an element for baby shower decor is a common theme. Bake a cake in the shape of your choice and frost it using either pink or blue frosting. Then, purchase a pair of baby shoes and use them to top the cake. Be sure to wash them thoroughly before placing them on the cake. You could also make large cupcakes and top each one with a plastic baby shoe.
