Easter cakes are a yummy way to end a family meal.

Depending on religious beliefs, Easter is celebrated in many different ways. One common way to celebrate Easter is with a family gathering for a meal and fellowship. An Easter egg themed cake is an appropriate way to incorporate the Easter theme into the family celebration, as well as provide guests with a yummy treat.

  1. Easter Egg-Shaped Cake

    • Use a cake mold to create an egg-shaped cake. Any flavor of cake will work well for the Easter cake. Use white icing to frost the whole cake. Then, use icing in various pastel colors to decorate the cake. Make stripes around the center of the cake or polka dots. Any type of decoration pattern will work. You can use sprinkles to add color and small detail as well. An alternative to one large Easter egg cake is to create several smaller egg-shaped cakes. Frost each cake in a different colored icing and pattern and present the cakes in an Easter basket. Try fondant frosting on smaller egg cakes so they can be more easily handled.

    Plastic Easter Egg Topper

    • A plain white sheet cake can take on an Easter theme with a few simple additions. Plastic Easter eggs in a variety of colors can be added to the top of the cake to create an Easter theme. Shredded coconut that has been colored green with food coloring can be added to the corners of the cake to indicate grass. Use a variety of colors and sizes when adding plastic Easter eggs to the cake. You can leave one egg open and have a marshmallow baby chick emerging from the shell for whimsical look.

    Easter Egg Diorama Cake

    • Turn a sheet cake into an Easter diorama. Create a small scene using bunnies, flowers and of course, Easter eggs. Use green colored frosting to ice the top of the cake. Green colored coconut can add grass-like texture. Use small plastic bunnies and chickens or use chocolate and marshmallow animals to decorate the top of the cake. Jelly beans or foil wrapped chocolate eggs scattered on the cake top or clustered in the corners of the cake make for theme appropriate additions.

    Other Easter Egg Cake Ideas

    • There are other ways to create Easter egg cakes. Use real Easter eggs on top of a decorated cake. This is especially lovely on a round, tiered cake with the eggs on the top layer. Another way to incorporate Easter eggs on a cake is to simply draw the image onto the cake with icing. The simple egg shape is easy to draw and can be colored with icing or sprinkles or a combination of both. Craft and party stores sell decorative cake toppers. Use an Easter egg cake topper to decorate a sheet cake, or use small picks (decorative elements with a pick for sticking into cakes) on cupcakes.
