Ideas for an October Baby Shower

Save

A new little life is joining the world in the fall. You want to plan a wonderful shower that will be enjoyed by all who attend, especially the expecting mother. Fall colors and themes offer a variety of decorating possibilities that are sure to make an impression in every aspect of an October shower.

Invitations

  • Fold pieces of card stock in half or purchase blank greeting cards from a craft or hobby store. Cut out leaf shapes from autumn-colored tissue paper and glue to the front of the cards. Draw faces on the leaves with markers. On the front, write, "A new little life is floating our way!" Write the details of the shower inside the card. For an alternative idea, paste pumpkin cut-outs to the front of the cards and write, "Come help us welcome our little pumpkin!"

Games and Activities

  • Give each guest a miniature pumpkin to decorate. Provide craft paints and brushes for them to exercise their artistic talents. Give your guests a sheet of paper that says "Little Pumpkin" on the top. Tell them they have three minutes to come up with as many words as possible consisting of only those letters.

Favors

  • Send each guest home with a scented pumpkin-shaped candle. Fill a baby bottle with candy corn and tie it with a fall-themed ribbon. Purchase leaf-shaped photo holders or floating candles. Fill tulle bags with scented potpourri in a fall fragrance such as apple pie or pumpkin spice.

Centerpieces

  • Purchase pumpkins, small scarecrow decorations, and autumn leaves to create simple and elegant centerpieces. Spray-paint pumpkins white, pink or blue and embellish with gemstones or glitter glue. Create fall-themed candle centerpieces by placing three pillar candles in fall scents and colors in a glass dish and surrounding them with decorative marbles or fall leaves. Purchase a wicker cornucopia. Wrap a cute baby doll or stuffed animal in an orange or brown blanket and place them in the cornucopia so it looks like they are sleeping. Surround with fall leaves and chrysanthemums. Fill a decorative red wagon or basket with apples and leaves and place a stuffed bear on the top.

Refreshments

  • Serve fall-related foods, such as pumpkin pie, apple cider, spice cake and pumpkin cupcakes. Place bowls with candy corn and candy pumpkins on the tables as snacks. Order a cake with a pumpkin, fall or Halloween theme. Bake apples and stuff them with raisins and pecans.
