Memorial Services
-
The September 11 Memorial is located in the footprints of the original twin towers. Memorial services are held annually in New York City to commemorate the World Trade Center disaster. The official New York City observance is typically held in Zuccotti Park, adjacent to ground zero. Beginning in 2011, however, the ceremony is scheduled to take place on the grounds of The National September 11 Memorial, which is situated in the footprints of the original twin towers.
Other memorial services held annually include the 9/11 remembrance ceremony organized by the Fire Department Retirees of Staten Island, the Memorial Floating Lanterns ceremony sponsored by the New York Buddhist Church, the Tribute in Light -- in which twin beams of light are projected into the sky above lower Manhattan -- sponsored by the Municipal Art Society and the memorial service held at St. Bartholomew's Church on Park Avenue at 51st Street in New York City.
Concerts
-
Several annual concerts commemorate the 9/11 disaster. September 11 concerts sponsored by septemberconcert.org are held annually throughout the five boroughs, including at St. Patrick's Cathedral and on the steps of the main branch of the New York Public Library at Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street in New York City. In addition, the Brooklyn Arts Council holds an annual Folk Arts project, which features 20 local singers from all walks of life performing original songs about the September 11 attacks. The New York Historical Society also holds an annual September Concert on 9/11 sponsored by The September Concert Foundation.

Bike and Motorcycle Rides
-
A group ride from New York to Washington, D.C. takes place annually to benefit 9/11 victims' families. The September 11th Families Association sponsors an annual bike ride from New York City to Washington, D.C. The ride, a total of 280 miles, benefits the families of police officers killed in the line of duty. In addition, The Ground Zero Independence Ride takes place annually. This motorcycle ride was created to honor the rescue workers who helped recover the site at ground zero.
Exhibitions
-
St. John's University in Staten Island is the site of The 9/11 Victims Memorial Quilt exhibit. Where to Turn, an organization that provides crisis relief services for victims of any kind of tragedy, hosts an annual exhibition of the United in Memory 9/11 Victims Memorial Quilt at St. John's University's campus in Staten Island, New York. The quilt measures 16,000 square feet in length and was made by more than 3,000 volunteers from 17 countries, each of whom crafted individual, personalized blocks -- 3,550 in all -- dedicated to a victim killed on 9/11/01. In addition, the New York City Police Museum at 100 Old Slip between South and Water streets has an ongoing exhibit of filmed interviews, photos and artifacts from ground zero on display that chronicles the NYPD's role in responding to the September 11 attacks.
