Overall Themes
-
Cinderella prom themes can say the obvious: "You're my Cinderella," "Living in a Fairy Tale" or "A Night With Cinderella." Other themes can imply that a fairy tale will unfold, as in "Once Upon a Time" or "Fairy Tale Dreams." When your decorations committee sets its prom against this classic love story, romance is sure to follow.
Fairy Tale Flavor
-
A "Cinderella" theme calls for ashes and rags, which need not take center stage. Drape a worn, torn discarded patchwork over a pumpkin or two, and place them alongside a straw broom near the venue's entrance to set the stage. Include a tiny, three-dimensional or painted thatched cottage. Contrast these special effects with a magical pathway made from silver metallic sheeting that leads to a stairway. Set a castle high among clouds of white or translucent balloon clusters. Line pathways with gathered layers of sheer white gossamer, netting or tulle. Use background papers or cardboard to form stone walls covered in ivy, a castle facade and distant village houses, woods and an occasional horse or two. Themes such as "Only a Princess," "Enchanted Evening," "Enchanted" or "Classic Love Story" work well among blue, silver, white or gold, purple and red color schemes.

Details
-
With a "Cinderella" prom theme, details matter. Draw or assemble a 3-D coach or carriage to transport the princess to the ball. Add magical touches such as a fairy godmother, magic wands, sparkling star trails and flourishes, costumed footmen and horses sporting giant plumes. Themes that work well include "This Magic Moment," "Night at the Ball," "Enchanted Evening," "First Dance" and simply "Charming."
Clocks, Shoes and Royal Trappings
-
Work embellishments into the theme and decorations by including clock faces and clock towers, glass slippers and tiaras. "Hour of Enchantment," "As Time Goes By," "Half Past Midnight," "A Moment in Time" or another theme incorporating time elements put the focus on enjoying short-lived moments. Add festive touches like fairy tale archways, a drawbridge, coats of arms and royal trumpeters. Set them beside giant, free-standing or painted storybooks.
Happily Ever After
-
No "Cinderella"-themed story is complete without a happy ending. Treat guests to party favor bags containing photo albums with the theme and castle design, small slippers containing nuts or mints, and a magical mirror with prom logo. Make memories last in castle-shaped or themed invitations or medieval scrolls. Students will cherish these mementos for years.
