Crafts Using Altoids Containers
Repurposing Altoids tins is a fun way to create pieces of art or items that can be used around the house or office. People just might be more interested in recycling when they see what can be created out of these little tin containers. Give them to loved ones as a reminder of how you feel about them, or use the tins as handy carrying cases when you are on the go.

Love Notes
-
Turn an empty Altoids container into a tin of reminders for that special someone in your life. Open the container and lay it down flat onto a newspaper-covered work surface so the inside is facing down. Spray paint the container in any color you desire. While the paint is drying, cut out a strip of heavy weight paper that will fit inside the tin and accordion fold it into a booklet. If more paper is needed, use a thin piece of tape to add it. Write thoughtful comments or inspirational sayings on each page. Hot glue the last page into the bottom of the tin, and glue the opposite end to the inside lid.
Candles
-
Altoids tins make good-size travel candles. If desired, spray paint the container and allow it to dry. Melt wax in a double boiler and add any fragrance oils you choose. Open the Altoids tin and place a pretabbed wick cut to length on the bottom using a small amount of hot glue to keep it in place. Clip the end with a clothespin and hold it upright while you pour the wax into the container. Lay the clothespin across the top of the tin until the wax is cooled.

Air Freshener
-
Altoids tins can be filled with potpourri and set anywhere in your home, office or car. Spray paint the lid if you wish to cover up the label. Drill several holes in the tin's lid, then sand around the holes on the inside to prevent any cuts on the sharp edges. Fill with potpourri and close the container. Place anywhere you would like to add a fragrant scent to the air.
Jewelry Boxes
-
Small, decorative jewelry boxes can be made with Altoids tins. Cover the lid by gluing fabric over the top and around the inside. Attach rhinestones or other embellishments to the material. Glue braided ribbon or rope around the bottom of the container. The container is handy for storing small earrings, bracelets or other pieces of jewelry, especially during travel.
Toolbox
-
Little toolboxes can be handy around the house. Place a small drawer handle on top of the tin and use a marker to mark where the holes should be punched. Use a hammer and large nail to punch the holes. With a piece of sandpaper or a rotary sander, smooth out the holes on the inside of the tin. Use red spray paint to completely cover the container. Once the paint has dried, fasten the handle on the top with two small bolts and place a nut on each one on the inside of the lid. Fill the container with small tools, screws, nuts, bolts or the items needed to create a sewing kit.
