Pegboard Display Ideas

Painted pegboards will elevate your display possibilities.

Pegboards --- traditionally used to organize hardware in garages and workrooms --- can be customized to help you organize cluttered areas and display your favorite items. Attach boxes, racks, hooks and other helpful hardware to your pegboard and hang items in a neat, user-friendly way. To update the pegboard, paint it in a bright, bold color and frame it with a contrasting color.

  1. Merchandise

    • Pull merchandise out of baskets and boxes and display it on a pegboard. Whether you are looking for new ideas for merchandising in a retail store or for organizing a craft table, a pegboard can help you move items that are not doing as well as you hope. For instance, a jumbled basket of key chains will take on unspoken presence if you display them individually on a cherry-red pegboard. Have the pegboard cut to size at the hardware store to save yourself a step.

    Jewelry

    • Hang earrings, necklaces, rings, bracelets and brooches on a pegboard to keep them organized and tangle free. Paint the pegboard white or cream and frame it with an ornate frame painted silver or gold to display your most used pieces. Hang the jewel-embellished pegboard next to a mirror, in a bathroom or wherever you get dressed. For further organization, create separate boards for rings, earrings and necklaces and use them as a display in place of art. Stack them in groups of three or hang them side by side, depending on available space and existing decor.

    Kitchen

    • Pegboards are becoming a popular place to store anything from utensils to pots, but they can also be used for many things in between. To declutter a high-traffic area of the kitchen, frame a pegboard in a contrasting color to the existing paint choice. Or, if the room is a neutral shade, choose a bold color like lime green or fuchsia to create some visual interest. Use the pegboard to store items like keys, mail, extra fridge magnets, candles, corkscrews and other kitchen items that end up littering counter tops.

    Craft Area

    • Jazz up your craft area with a giant slab of pegboard painted in an ever-inspiring color like orange, coral or cerulean blue. Add buckets for storing tubes of paint; baskets for things like paintbrushes; and tissue paper, ribbon and hooks for scissors and punches. Examine your craft supplies and determine the tools and supplies most frequently used. Incorporate these items into the pegboard. To create an eye-pleasing display, choose items you have more than one of and arrange the board in neat sections. For instance, spools of thread can take up a line or two of holes and create a colorful display.
