'70s Retro Color Decor

Neon colors in psychedelic swirls can be used to decorate for a '70s party theme. Retro '70s décor is big and colorful. Bright pinks, oranges, yellows, lime green and cornflower blue are mixed in psychedelic swirls. Big flowers were the rage. For a party, cut large poster board of these colors into geometric shapes, and tape them to the walls. Drape bright-colored fabric or scarves over lampshades. Tie scarves around pillows and remove after the party is over.

Macrame was a popular '70s style. Little woodland creatures like owls, frogs and turtles were popular as well as anything macramé. Hang macramé plant hangers. Large owl wall hangings were also done in macramé. Many of these items can be found online at auction sites or at thrift stores. Smiley faces and big daisy flowers in neon colors, which are still easily obtained, were also introduced in the '70s.

'70s Party Tables

"Twister" was a popular '70s game. If you are not playing the game, use the plastic game sheet with the big colorful dots for a table cloth. Other fun items from the '70s included Nerf balls, "Slip 'n Slides" and "Pet Rocks." Use these for entertainment and for decorations. A big punch bowl and large gerber daisies and crepe paper in neon colors make good table decorations. The crepe paper should be two colors twisted together and centered down the length of the table.
'70s Retro Dance Decorations

A disco ball or strobe light is a classic '70s party decoration. A '70s party isn't complete without a disco ball, a strobe light or a fog machine. Create a "Saturday Night Fever" dance floor with these special effects. Use old plastic 45 records or albums for decorations. Hang them from the ceiling like streamers with clear fishing line and tape. Throw around some bean bag chairs and you're ready to go.
