Games for a Mother-Son Dance
Just like fathers and daughters, mothers and sons deserve a dance in their honor, dedicated to their special bond, and an evening filled with music, dancing, refreshments and games, not to mention prizes. Whether a boy is challenging his mother to a game of bean bag tic-tac-toe or shooting hoops from the free-throw line to win her the stuffed animal of her choice, games are a welcome addition to this special occasion.

Dance Games
-
With a good DJ and a willing volunteer to stand in front of the room to demonstrate the dance steps, there are many crowd-pleasing dance games that can be performed while on the dance floor, beginning with the all-time favorite chicken dance and ending with the macarena, a popular Latin dance that is a hit at almost any social gathering. These particular dances are as easy to learn as they are interactive, encouraging the entire crowd to get on the dance floor together.
Free Throws
-
If the mother-son dance is held in the school gym, invite mothers and sons to shoot free throws and offer prizes for those who make a basket. Boys love sports, as well as showing off their sports talent to the first woman in their life. You could add a degree of difficulty by having them make the shots with their backs to the basket.

Carnival Games
-
If you're looking for a cool theme for your mother-son dance, think carnival. Create a room full of carnival-type games, such as a bean bag toss, tic-tac-toe, softball toss, fishing pond, cake walk, can knockdown and dart throw. With these easy-to-set-up games, mothers and sons can spend some quality time together, competing for prizes, without having to compete for a good time.
Musical Chairs
-
Play a good, old-fashioned game of musical chairs. While this game is an old tradition at parties, it is still one of the most entertaining games to play. With each round and with each eliminated player, the game gets that much more exciting. Give the winner a prize as well as the dance floor, to dance with his mother to his favorite song.
Dance Contest
-
In the spirit of friendly competition, invite mothers and sons to take part in a dance contest--but with a different spin. Have the DJ announce a song and play it through. Each mother/son couple will listen to the song and then consult together to devise their own dance to go with the song. Not only will this inspire mothers and sons to work on their dance moves, it will give them a chance to create something together. The DJ will then play the song through and everyone will perform their dances. Have a volunteer "judge" observe the dances and pull out three couples. These three couples will then perform their dances and the judge will assign the place winners--first, second and third.
