Why Buy a Kindle?
Traditionalists may scoff at the idea of the Kindle, a device used to read books electronically. Like it or not, the Kindle -- and now the Kindle 3 -- has changed the way people read. The Kindle 3 is offered in three different versions: the Kindle Wi-Fi, the Kindle 3G + Wi-Fi, and the Kindle DX. The Kindle Wi-Fi has the cheapest starting price, $139, at the time of publication.

Convenience
-
The main benefit of owning a Kindle 3 is the ability to carry multiple books with you at all times, making it ideal for avid readers. The Kindle 3 weighs 8.5 ounces and can store 3,500 electronic books at one time. Try carrying around five books at one time and you will see how convenient the Kindle 3 really is. The Kindle 3 is also smaller -- or on par -- with the size of most books. The overall length of the device is 7.5 inches, while the width is 4.5 inches. In short, owning a Kindle 3 is like owning a small library in your backpack or back pocket.
The Download
-
The Kindle 3 allows consumers to download books from Amazon.com in 60 seconds, cutting down drastically on the time it would take to locate the book elsewhere. No more waiting in bookstore lines, or searching through libraries to find the latest best seller. As of 2011, there are more than 610,000 books available for $9.99 or less. Altogether, more than 900,000 books can be downloaded to the Kindle 3. Consumers can also download the first chapter of a book for free. Once you have finished reading a downloaded book, you can delete it, making room for another.

Easy On The Eyes
-
The Kindle 3 features a 6-inch diagonal screen, while those who purchase a Kindle DX will receive a 9.7-inch diagonal screen. The actual text size on both screens can be enlarged. This is particularly handy for when your eyes start getting tired, but you want to finish that last chapter. Altogether, the Kindle 3 offers eight different text sizes, as well as three different font styles. Pictures within the e-book can also be enlarged. Although color isn't available, the Kindle 3 does offer 16 shades of gray, giving text and images a sharp resolution.
Features
-
The Kindle 3 offers a variety of features, including the text-to-speech feature. This feature allows the consumer to have the book read to her by either a male or female voice. The pages on the screen will automatically flip as the voice reads, allowing the consumer to follow along if she desires. Using a USB cable, the Kindle 3 can download MP3 files so that readers can have background music. The Kindle 3 also features a Web browser that operates Safari. These features are currently described as "experimental" according to Amazon.com. The next generation Kindle will more than likely improve upon them.
