Fairy-Tale Princesses (4- to 6-Year-Olds)
-
The most classic type of princess to use as a theme for your daughter's dress-up party is the fairy-tale princess, based on classic fairy tales and made even more popular by Disney's princess movies. To get the party started, hand-deliver invitations to give guests a "royal" feeling and invite them to arrive at the party dressed as their favorite heroine from a fairy tale. You also can invite them to transform once they arrive. Serve princess cupcakes for guests to top with candy, dried fruit, each creating her own mini fairy-tale cake. Provide inexpensive tiaras for each guest to decorate with glitter and sequins and take home as a party favor.
Mermaid Princesses (Ages 6 and up)
-
If the weather permits, hold this dress-up party outdoors. You can set up a wading pool or sprinkler to keep younger mermaids wet and happy, or host the get-together at an outdoor swimming pool for guests who have good swimming skills. Ask guests to arrive in their favorite "mermaid" bathing suit. Provide younger guests the opportunity to experience the feel of being a mermaid by converting large pieces of shiny or metallic fabric into sack-like mermaid fins for the girls to hop around in. Allow older mermaids to use snorkeling gear to get an "under the sea" view of life. Guests of any age will enjoy creating a bracelet or necklace of shells to wear and take home.

Magical Fairy Princesses (4- to 6-Year-Olds)
-
An outdoor party can be a magical environment for a fairy princess -- those elusive beings who are the size of a moth and fly through the forest -- for dress-up party. Little girls already appear small next to trees and some outdoor furniture, so the more your outdoor party environment can accentuate the diminutive "fairy" size of your guests, the more magical your party will feel. Decorate inexpensive gauzy fairy wings or allow each guest to hunt among the trees for the perfect stick to decorate with ribbon and glitter as her fairy wand. Serve a punch made of juice and sparkling water and tell guests that its fizzes provide magical powers. A game of "Hide and Seek" will offer your fairy princesses a chance to test out their ability to "disappear" from sight.
Princesses Around the World (Ages 8 and up)
-
Tweens and teens will enjoy an opportunity to sport their very finest attire as they pretend to be the oh-so-chic princess of a modern-day real or invented country. Celebrate your daughter's birthday by creating a royal wedding reception-style party right in your own home. Decorate table with flowers and fine china and serve elegant sandwiches, tea and desserts. Have the girls go on a scavenger hunt, collecting something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. Provide simple straw hats and lots of ribbon and fake flowers for each guest to create the perfect wedding chapeau.
