Think of a creative way to ask someone to a high school dance.

Teenagers spend a lot of time preparing for big dances, such as prom and the homecoming dance. Because there are so many details involved in getting ready for these big dances, such as who will drive you to the dance and what restaurant you will go to after the event, it's preferable to invite a date up to a month or more in advance. For dances that are less formal, you can often just ask someone within a week or two. Build up your self-confidence and think of a creative way to ask someone to a dance.

  1. Digital Media

    • Many teenagers use email and text messaging to communicate with their friends. If you are shy or too nervous to ask someone to the dance in person, send her a quick email or text message asking her if she will attend the dance with you. Another way to ask her is simply to call her on the phone.

    At School

    • Invite him to eat lunch with you in your cafeteria. While you two are eating your lunch, say that you are excited about the dance that is coming up and ask him if he would like to go with you. He may appreciate the effort you made in arranging a lunch date with him and may be likely to accept your offer.

Another way to ask her at school is to make an announcement over your school's intercom system. Ask your school principal for permission to make a morning announcement. When it is your turn to talk, ask her to be your date for the dance. This is a gutsy option for a self-confident teen.

Another option is to leave a hand-written note taped to her locker. Or you could find or make a clever card and then write a simple invitation on the card.

    Artistic Options

    • You may want to choose a dramatic option if you are already dating someone, just for the fun of it. If you live near a beach, write a message in the sand. Pick a remote part of the beach to write your message, so others will not walk all over it. Write in a place where the waves will not wash away your work in the next few hours. Ask her to go to the beach with your later that evening to show her your invitation.

Another artistic way to ask her to the dance is to buy her a cake at a bakery. Ask the baker to write a personalized message on top of the cake. The message could say, for example, "Sarah, will you go with me to the Homecoming dance?" After she accepts your invitation, both of you can enjoy a slice of cake.

    Other Options

    • Record a CD for her with a romantic song. After the song is over, tape your invitation. Give her the CD after school or deliver it to her house.

Another way to ask her is through snail mail. Most teenagers don't write letters anymore because they communicate through email and text messaging. In your letter, you should include qualities you like about her and express how much it would mean for you to bring her as your date. She will be surprised when she recieves your letter in the mail and will appreciate that you invited her in an old-fashioned way.
