Nonprofit Gifts for Kids at Christmastime
There is an overwhelming need to spread holiday cheer to underprivileged children during Christmastime. Gifts are not always in the budget for parents who are struggling to make ends meet. Luckily, there is a variety of charitable organizations that collect toys during the holidays for these children in need. There are national organizations, such as Toys for Tots, and local organizations that set up drop-off locations for gift donations. Find a nonprofit organization in your community to help bring smiles to children's faces during the Christmas season.

Gender-Neutral Gifts
-
Gender-neutral toys make excellent donations if you do not know who will receive the toy. Stuffed animals, play sets or building blocks are fun for toddlers. Choose board games, crayons, coloring books, Legos, or electronic learning games, such as Leap Frog, for older children. Teenagers will appreciate DVDs, MP3 players, music gift cards or electronic gaming systems.
Age-Appropriate Gifts
-
Crib toys, musical mobiles, picture books and teething toys are fitting gifts for infants and babies. Toy cars, dolls, play dough and puzzles are appropriate for preschool children. School-aged children want electronic hand-held games, dolls, craft sets and children's movies. Clothing, sporting equipment, makeup, electronic games and wall posters make excellent gift choices for teenagers.

Educational Toys
-
Make learning fun for children during the holidays by purchasing an educational toy. Boxed craft sets can teach children a variety of different lessons, such as science, painting, jewelry making or math. Play sets that teach toddlers how to count, animal sounds, shapes or colors are entertaining and educational. Older children can benefit from electronic hand-held games that teach math, science, English and other subjects.
Toys to Avoid
-
Avoid donating used toys during the holidays. Any toys that promote violence, such as play guns or violent video games, are also inappropriate. Toys that have sharp edges or are easily broken do not make good holiday donation gifts. Video games should also be avoided, unless you have a specific request and are aware of the game console that the child owns.
