Like many superheroes, the scrappy mutant known as Wolverine has worn a number of different costumes throughout his career. Wolverine is always dressed to kill, from his spandex yellow look from the comics to the black leather from the "X-Men" movies. With enough hair styling product and a pair of fake claws, you can create an easy Wolverine costume for Halloween, comic conventions or costume parties.
Select Your Costume
Wolverine has worn a number of different costumes over the years, so select your favorite before starting your costume. In the comics and animated shows, Wolverine often wears bright colored yellow costumes made from spandex and a mask to conceal his face. In the movies Wolverine wears a black leather uniform with yellow piping and no mask. Other variations include his retro orange and tan costume, his black-and-gray stealth "X-Force" suit and his costume from "Ultimate X-Men" which combines elements from the movie costume and his original suit.
Creative Wolverine Costume Ideas
Feel free to take liberties with your Wolverine costume, it does not have to be completely accurate. Use elements of typical Wolverine costumes to create your own design that is more appropriate to your body type and budget. Dig out a flannel shirt, tank top and jeans from your closet to go as Wolverine's alter ego Logan. Females that want to dress like Wolverine might consider adding a skirt and yellow tights. Other creative ideas include a zombie Wolverine costume or something off-the-wall like a pirate or ninja version of Wolverine.
The claws are one of the most important aspects of a Wolverine costume, without which the costume just wouldn't be the same. Costume shops sell realistic-looking metallic or plastic Wolverine claws, but they can also be expensive. You don't have to be extremely crafty to make a decent set of Wolverine claws. While you can use resin to create the claws, a simpler way is to cut the claws out from cardboard and cover them in silver paint or aluminum foil. Attach the claws to a small dowel or another piece of cardboard that you can hold in your palm so that the claws look like they are coming out from between your knuckles.
Don't Forget the Details
The details are what make the costume, so don't be afraid to go all out. Buy a pair of replica Wolverine dog tags for an authentic look or buy blank dog tags and have them engraved. Wolverine is known for his wild animal hairstyle so use a hair dryer to feather your hair on either side and hold it together using a large amount of hair product or skip the hassle and invest in a wig. Don't forget Wolverine's mutton chops and face scruff. Finish the costume with a belt buckle in the shape of an "X."
