Red, White & Blue Craft Ideas for the Fourth of July
The Fourth of July is all about celebrating the strength of America and to appreciate its freedoms. Independence Day is marked by patriotism and the display of red, white and blue. Instead of buying decorations for this holiday, save money by creating your own crafts to display your patriotism.

Beaded Pin
-
You can show off your patriotism with a beaded safety pin craft. First, gather one large, and 12 medium, safety pins. The 12 safety pins should be decorated with red, white and blue safety pins that form the pattern of the American flag. Stick the curled part of the pins over the needle of the larger pin, starting with the striped pins. The tricky part is getting the pins over the curl in the large pin. Once all the pins are threaded on and secure, you are ready to wear your pin with patriotic pride.
Paint Stick Lady Liberty
-
This porch decoration is practically free, as most hardware stores give out paint stirring sticks when you buy a gallon of paint. Begin by painting the handle of a stirring stick a skin tone, and the rest an off-white. Cut a tongue depressor and craft stick in half. Paint the craft stick in the skin tone, and the tongue depressor navy blue using acrylic paint. Glue the craft stick to the underside of the tongue depressor, and glue onto the paint stirrer. Paint on the face and decorative stripes and stars. Use dry moss for the hair and the base of the stirrer and display on your porch.

Wind Chime
-
Create a patriotic craft using a plain, inexpensive wooden wind chime. Disassemble the chime before beginning. Acrylic paint should be used to paint the wooden chimes red, white and blue. If there are more than three chimes, you can also use gold paint. While the chimes are drying, cut out three small stars from red, white and blue foam sheets. A large star can be cut out of white foam and painted gold. Once everything has dried, use fishing wire to re-string the stars and chimes onto the wooden frame. For the most aesthetically pleasing look, paint the chimes with several coats.
Centerpiece
-
If you are having a family picnic for the Fourth of July, create a patriotic centerpiece from rice and glass jars. Fill two sealable sandwich bags with large grain rice. The bags should then have red or blue food coloring added before being sealed and mixed through the bag. Once the coloring has been evenly distributed, pour the contents of the bag onto separate paper towels to soak up the extra coloring and to let the rice dry. Once the blue rice is dry, pour it into an old glass jar. Add a layer of uncolored rice to the jar before adding the red rice. For the finishing touch, add an American flag or tea light candle to the top.
