Ideas for Autumn Home Weddings
A wedding at home can be intimate, romantic and far more affordable than renting out another space. If you want the wedding to be held outdoors, schedule it for the early part of fall so you'll have a better chance of warm weather. Don't invite more guests than can fit inside the house. In the event of bad weather, you'll need to take the festivities indoor.

Create An Aisle
-
Since you're not getting married in a church, there won't be a clear aisle for you to walk down. Create your own using fall leaves or pumpkins. Buy several dozen miniature pumpkins or gourds. Line them up, evenly spaced, on either side of your aisle. For an even more affordable idea, collect several bags of fall leaves. If you only have crumbled brown leaves in your yard, buy fake leaves from a craft store. Spread them out all over your aisle.
Decorate with Plants
-
Since you won't have the benefits of a hotel ballroom and its stockroom of decorative items, you'll need to make your yard or living room feel festive on your own. Use autumn plants to set the tone. Fill flowerpots with flowers in autumn colors, such as yellow marigolds and orange and red gerbera daisies. If you're getting married outdoors and don't have a full garden, position potted flowers throughout the area, then fill in any gaps with clusters of pumpkins or shafts of wheat.

Pies
-
Skip the elaborate wedding cake and serve pie instead. Pies are more affordable than a large cake, and they'll make your guests feel like they're at a cozy family dinner. Order pies from a bakery or ask your relatives to contribute by baking their favorite recipes. Serve several varieties, using fall flavors as your inspiration. Apple, pumpkin and pecan pies will all be appreciated. If you want to replicate the traditional cake-cutting, set aside one pie for the two of you to cut.
Easy Drinks
-
A home wedding will naturally feel more intimate than one held in a formal ballroom, so continue that feeling at the bar. You may hire one or two bartenders, or even let guests serve themselves. Whatever you choose to do, set up a few self-service stations that are stocked with warm autumn drinks. Fill large carafes with hot chocolate, flavored coffees and hot apple cider. Stock the area with plenty of thick ceramic mugs. Guests can help themselves to fall drinks.
