Dressing up for Halloween or just a costume party is a way to express yourself and to have fun. When a mother and son want to dress up, it's fun to use costumes that match or complement each other. Choose people, animals or matching items. Make costume choices based on the age of the boy and your personal hobbies or interests.
Dress a mommy and son as the same animal, only let the mom be the full-grown, mother animal and the son can be the baby animal. Chicken and a baby chick or egg costumes are an example of how to create a mom and baby animal costume. This costume works best if the son is a baby or a child. Another spin on an animal mother and son costume is to have the mother dress up as a farmer and dress the son as a farm animal. This idea works for babies, children and even older children.
A mom who dresses like Mother Goose can be accompanied by a son dressed as Humpty Dumpty or another nursery rhyme character such as Little Jack Horner. A mother can also wear a Little Miss Muffet costume and have her son dressed as the black spider who sat down beside her and scared her away. A Miss Muffet costume can be a made from an old prom or bridesmaid dress that has a full skirt. Add an apron and a bonnet. Don't forget to carry a bowl full of portage. A black sweatsuit is a good base for a spider costume. Make additional spider legs from tubes of black fabric, stuff them and attach to the sweatsuit.
A television and remote control or a computer screen and a mouse are examples of complementary costumes. A mother can dress as inanimate object while the son dresses as something that is used in conjunction. A flower and a watering can or a canvas and a paint brush are examples of costumes that can be worn by a mother and son.
A trading-places pair of costumes will bring a few giggles to those who see it. Dress the son as a grownup with a suit, brief case and toy cell phone. The mother can go as a young girl with pig tails and freckles and a baby doll dress. If the son is a baby, consider having the mom goes as a baby with a bonnet and a pacifier in her mouth.
