What Are the Challenge Numbers & Meanings in Numerology?
In Numerology, your challenge numbers determine what obstacles you will face throughout your life. Each person has three challenge numbers, which are calculated based on the person's numerical birth date. The first challenge number determines what challenge the person will face early in life, the second from youth to life's end, and the third is the individual's largest, lifelong challenge.

0: Indecision
-
In Numerology, if your life challenge (the third challenge) number is 0, you may have an old soul that has overcome the previous challenges. The Life Challenges are the only time the number 0 is used in Numerology. If your lifelong challenge number is 0, this means you won't face one major challenge, but will be given time for personal growth throughout your years. The 0 challenge in other life stages indicates you reason well, but have trouble making decisions based on that reasoning.
1: Following the Crowd
-
If your challenge number is 1, you must learn to stand out as an individual. Your compulsion to follow the crowd is strong. You will be challenged with situations in which you must stand up for your own beliefs and risk going against the grain. Your challenge is to make your own decisions and gain individuality without becoming bossy and domineering, the polar opposite of your tendencies.

2: Self-Criticism
-
If your challenge number is 2, you must learn to see the positives within yourself. You can be overly sensitive and hyper-aware of others' criticisms. Being overly self-conscious can inhibit you from trying new things and working well with others. Learning to use your innate sensitivity to develop strong relationships with others will help you gain self-confidence. In this process, you will learn to better care for others and they will develop more respect for you.
3: Hiding Your Light
-
The benefits of sharing your talents with others will far outweigh the comfort of keeping them to yourself. You shy away from social interaction and may even "hide your light under a basket," to avoid dealing with others. You are much more critical of yourself than is necessary. Learn to share your talents and you will gain the respect of others, as well as learn to feel comfortable around them, while maintaining your individuality and self-drive.
4: Developing Work Ethic and Compromising
-
Learning to work as part of a team will help you overcome this number challenge. You tend to be uncompromising when it comes to getting what you want. You may also want things to come easily for you, without giving your full effort. You must learn to work for what you want, while also cooperating with others and showing consideration for others' needs and wants.
5: Learning to Focus
-
Your challenge is to channel your creative energies into fewer ideas so they can grow to their full potential. You are a passionate person, with many interests, but you sometimes flit from one idea to the next without making real progress on any one thing. Your challenge is to find your one true passion, which will help you focus your energies on a positive endeavor.
6: The Perfectionist
-
You know what they say, life is not a bed of roses -- it's not perfect, but it doesn't need to be to be amazing. Your biggest challenge will be accepting that the world and you are not perfect. Your standards are high and you are sometimes too demanding of others. Your challenge will be to accept and appreciate the beauty of the world and the people in it just the way they are, not for what you think they could or should be.
7: The Cynic
-
Your challenge is to try seeing the world, and yourself, in a more flattering light. Your tendency is to focus on the negative. Your challenge is to overcome your sarcastic attitude and learn to enjoy being around others, rather than isolating yourself. Learning to appreciate others' talents and your own will lead to greater happiness.
8: Desire for Money and Power
-
Questing after that golden egg will not leave you as fulfilled as building meaningful relationships with others. You will be tempted to acquire money, possessions, and power. Your must learn to find satisfaction in positive relationships with others and with yourself. Learn to give things away: your time, your money, your possessions -- to overcome your desire to own and control.
