Boys' Haircut Ideas

Boys' Haircut Ideas thumbnail
Personality and lifestyle should be considered when deciding on how to cut a boy's hair.

Parents prefer their kids' haircuts to be manageable and easily maintained. A boy's personality and lifestyle should be considered when deciding on a hairstyle. Boys who are very active may benefit from a shorter haircut, while longer cuts may be trendier. There are varied styles of haircuts for boys, some short and some longer. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Buzz Cut

    • The buzz cut is a very short haircut that is the same length all over the head. This style is achieved with an electric razor. Hair is typically anywhere from 1/4 inch to 3/4 inches in length. This cut is suited to active boys as it is very simple to maintain and easy to clean -- it cannot get tangled. It is appropriate for warmer months, but not as ideal in the winter season. One drawback to this style is that it requires frequent cuts to keep it short.

    Textured Cut

    • A textured cut is longer than a buzz cut, but still short at the top and sides. It is slightly longer on top and this is where the texture can be created. A small amount of gel can be spread throughout the hair to create a messy look and hold it in place. This cut is ideal for boys with straight, thicker hair, but it is not appropriate for boys with curly locks.

    Shag Cut

    • The shag cut is a layered hairstyle that can be shorter or longer, depending on personal preference. This cut is meant to look messy and does not require a lot of maintenance. It can be air-dried after washing, but for formal occasions, it can be blow-dried using a comb or brush. A longer shag cut can be pulled back in a ponytail, again depending on a boy's personal style. The shag can be cut with or without bangs.

    Side Swept Cut

    • The side swept cut for boys is a longer style than a buzz cut or textured cut. Hair has more length at the crown to the front. Hair is parted off center and bangs are swept to one side. If necessary, some gel can be used to help keep bangs back. The cut is suitable for any length of hair and offers versatility as hair can be brushed to either side. The side swept look is better for boys who are not as active. Additional styling may be needed to maintain the look, compared to other cuts.
