80s Rocker Halloween Costume Ideas
Halloween presents a once-a-year opportunity for adults to enjoy the fun of childlike make-believe. Deciding on a costume can present fun and frustration. Those looking to create an '80s rocker getup will discover that it holds definite differences from rockers of other decades. In many ways, thanks at least in part to MTV, '80s rockers are almost the archetype of the concept.

Male Clothing
-
Male '80s rocker clothes vary quite a bit. The heavy-metal school ranged from wild animal prints to leather and spandex. Leather chaps over jeans also works. Black leather works in terms of jackets and vests and shirts. Other bold-colored shirts or bold print T-shirts can be worn. Boots serve as the footwear of choice, but even tennis shoes can work. Another style of rocker look, though, is the dress pants, button-down shirt and skinny tie (with or without a sport jacket).
Female Clothing
-
Bold was the rule in terms of female rocker clothing of the 1980s. Skirts and dressing with leggings can be worn. Lingerie-like bustiers as outer wear also often graced the wardrobe of '80s rockers. Fishnet stockings with short skirts also serve the costume well. Even torn-up denim would work. Just like with male costumes, bold animal prints and black leather and spandex are options. High-heeled shoes or boots make the most obvious choices in terms of footwear.

Hair and Makeup
-
Lots of makeup was common with '80s rockers, both male and female. Motley Crue-style makeup that was more of raunchy take on Kiss is one makeup possibility. The glam, androgynous makeup style was also big in the '80s. The bright and garish looks of Cyndi Lauper and Madonna work for women. Big hair for both sexes was common for '80s rock bands. Spiked hair, like Billy Idol's for men (and even women), also can be used in the costume, as can the glamorous shorter hair style. Colors ranging from bleached blond to jet black and even purple or pink achieve the look.
Accessories
-
Sunglasses make an obvious but effective choice in terms of accessories. Consider lots of jewelry for female '80s rocker looks. Jewelry also works for male costumes, but except for the more glam metal look, jewelry should be more masculine (but can still be conspicuous and plentiful). Bright bandannas wrapped around the legs (particularly patterned ones) add to the metal look. Bright colored guitars as props do well. A keyboard, or less flashy guitar also works, but even drum sticks will do.
