The Classic Outfit

When looking for inspiration for a feminine twist on the classic Mario and Luigi outfits, check out 2010's "Super Mario Galaxy 2," in which both Mario and Luigi -- the latter as a guest character -- appear in three-dimensional computer-generated graphics. First obtain blue overalls. If going as Mario, get a red blouse or a tight-fitting, long-sleeved red shirt. For Luigi, choose a green shirt of the same variety. Complete the outfit with white gloves, brown shoes, the classic red or green driver's style cap (with an added "M" or "L" in the middle) and an optional fake moustache.
The blouse or tight shirt -- the frillier the better -- alone can make the outfit more feminine than usual, but your choice of overalls (form-fitting is more feminine) and gloves (silk gloves are the feminine option) can also give the traditional outfit a feminine twist. Feminize your ensemble even more by taking a page from another classic video game: put a big bow in your hair, a la Ms. Pac-Man, in Mario red or Luigi green.
The Sporty Version

Mario and Luigi do more than fight Bowser, King of Koopas; they also play tennis, basketball, volleyball, ice hockey, dodge ball and a few other sports in their own cartoonish style. When putting together a feminine Mario or Luigi costume, opt to go as a sports-playing Mario brother. Refer to 2011's "Mario Sports Mix" for ideas. Wear your feminine version of the classic outfit as described above, but swap some sports attire in, like white wristbands instead of white gloves, a red or green sweatband instead of a driver's cap and a short-sleeved red or green shirt. Carry a piece of sports equipment, too.
You can go much more feminine by replacing the overalls with a denim skirt or, more in keeping with the sports theme, a navy-colored tennis skirt. You can then use navy-colored suspenders to complete the faux overalls look.

The Babysitting Version

If you're familiar with 2005's "Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time," you know that Mario and Luigi battle alongside their baby selves as they travel through time. In addition to your feminized Mario or Luigi outfit, carry around baby dolls dressed up in mini blue overalls, a red or green long-sleeved shirt and a red or green driver's caps. You can even go as Baby Mario or Baby Luigi yourself. Just wear short overalls instead of full-length overall pants, and carry a big swirly lollipop and an oversized baby bottle to create a visual "baby" message.
Princess Versions (or Princess Girlfriends)

A common "Super Mario Bros." costume choice for girls is either Princess Peach, Mario's girlfriend, or Princess Daisy, Luigi's girlfriend. If you still want to go as Luigi or Mario instead of Peach or Daisy, but you like the frilly princess dresses, opt to go as your own made-up version of a princess: "Princess Mario/Maria" or "Princess Luigi/Luisa." Model your costume after the Peach or Daisy floor-length dresses, but change the color scheme. Re-design Peach's light and dark pink dress in a red and blue color scheme or re-design Daisy's yellow and orange dress so that it's green and blue. Wear your long hair brown (the color of Mario's and Luigi's hair) instead of Peach's blond hair or Daisy's red locks.
