Things to Do at the Beach for a Birthday
Sun, surf and sand together make for a fun day. People gravitate to the beaches during nice weather for some fun in the sun and to cool off in cool waters. Many decide to have a birthday party at the beach to combine a fun summertime activity with the fun of gathering friends for a birthday celebration. Volleyball is a typical summertime beach game. A friendly game of volleyball can be fun to include in a birthday beach celebration. Divide guests into teams and allow them to play each other or rotate guests in and out of the game so everyone gets a chance to play. Horseshoes is another game that can played at the beach. For the younger guests, provide a beach ball for a game of "Keep it up." Set up more than one game so all guests have something to participate in at all times.

Create contests for guests to compete against each other with a prize or prizes for the winners. Buried Treasure is a game that guests of all ages can participate in. Before guests arrive, designate an area of the beach for the game area. Use small flags to show the boundaries of the game area. Bury small toys in the sand and give guests sand pails and shovels so they can dig for a buried treasure. Sand-castle building is another fun beach party contest. Choose a theme for the sand castles, such as sand castles that resemble a birthday cake.

Keep young guests busy with fun activities. Provide small cars and dolls, sand pails and shovels and plastic watering cans for young kids to play with. Another activity to keep guests busy is a craft. Provide sun visors and jewels and fabric paint so guests can embellish their sun visors any way they would like. T-shirt decorating is another fun craft that will keep guests busy during down times in the party.

Eating is one thing to do that keeps guests happy at any party, and a beach birthday party is no different. Be sure to keep a lot of bottled water on hand so guests can stay hydrated. Keep water bottles in buckets, covered in ice. Serve easy-to-eat foods like pizza or sandwiches and chips. Of course, birthday cake or cupcakes in a beach theme are a must for dessert.
