Dry, damaged hair is not aesthetically pleasing. Whether the damage is due to heat or hair color, making it look better can take time and effort. Instead of sporting a crew cut or going to a pricey salon, use home treatments for overworked hair. Save money and soothe overworked locks at home. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Olive Oil

    • Olive oil is a hydrating treatment for overworked hair. Olive oil contains vitamin E, which helps seal the cuticle. This leads to a shiny, smooth appearance. It contains antioxidants that protect the hair from future damage and from sun damage. To use it, apply olive oil directly to your hair. Use your fingers to massage it into every strand. Cover hair with a shower cap or towel, and let it sit for 30 minutes. Rinse it out thoroughly, and use shampoo and conditioner as usual.

    Coconut Oil

    • Coconut oil is filled with fatty acids that nourish all hair, especially overworked hair. Apply the coconut oil on damp hair. Use the palm of your hand to work it into all of the hair. Cover the hair with a shower cap. Place a towel on top of your pillow. Sleep with the coconut oil in your hair overnight. Wash it out the next day with shampoo and conditioner.

    Honey

    • Honey is an effective home treatment for overworked hair because it's a humectant. That means that it draws and holds moisture to the hair. Mix together 2 tsp. honey, 2 Tbsp. jojoba oil and 5 drops of lavender oil. Put the mixture in a cup that is sitting in hot water. Apply it to your hair. Cover it with a shower cap, and wrap a towel around your head. Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. Wash hair with gentle shampoo and conditioner afterward.

    Apple Cider Vinegar

    • Apple cider vinegar is a home treatment that promotes shine in overworked hair. It also reduces troublesome tangles. Apple cider vinegar removes build-up from hair. It also closes the cuticles, which leads to shiny hair. Mix 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar into 1 quart of warm water. After shampooing your hair, rinse the hair with the mixture. Do this home treatment once per month.
