Fun Customer Service Focused Team Activities
Every year in October, Customer Service Week takes place in businesses across the nation. The purpose of this week is to raise awareness of how providing excellent customer service is essential to a successful company. This is also when employers give thanks to and honor those employees that serve and support customers with care and professionalism. Any company that provides customer service can participate in Customer Service Week by creating their own schedule of events.

Set Up The Celebration
-
The first Customer Service focused team activity can be to create a team of people to schedule the events throughout the week. This same group can be designated to decorate for the big event, or another team can be chosen. There are many suggestions for fun activities on the Customer Service Group's website, the official sponsors of the Customer Service Week program.
Although decorating for the festive week may be considered preparation, it is actually the first of many focused team activities. Co-workers can have fun working as a team to decorate the office, coordinating each step of the decoration and set-up process; this provides a good example of working with internal customers to reach a common goal.
Chair Parade
-
Divide into groups of four and decorate rolling office chairs to resemble floats in a parade. Each team is asked to decorate an office chair float in a way that represents their commitment to excellent customer service. Then the parade can travel throughout the office, throwing candy to co-workers. Provide prizes in various categories, such as "biggest" or "most colorful" float.

Tasty Treats with a Message
-
This can be done as a potluck event or a contest, with teams or individuals preparing the treats. Ask employees to make treats to share with the rest of the group. For a Customer Service Week twist, the treats must have a name or message about excellent customer service. Examples include dedicated donuts, kan-do Korean coleslaw, loyal lemon bars, courteous cupcakes, customer satisfied strawberries (chocolate-coated strawberries with smiley faces painted on each) and added-value apple pie. To make it into a contest, have everyone vote for their favorite dish and the best-named treat.
Amazing Customer Service Race
-
In this team-building game, concepts from the TV show "The Amazing Race" are used. Teams travel around the office and complete tasks to win a prize. Each day, a clue is given to the location of the first "pit stop." Once all teams arrive at the location, they must complete a task. The last team to finish the task is eliminated. Each person on the team must participate and each task is about 10 to 15 minutes long. Examples include:
Pit Stop Clue #1
Go to the place where the mighty giant lives to find the task.
Task #1
Eat the entire collard green pie. The last team to finish the pie is eliminated. Teams that complete the task move on.
Pit Stop Clue #2
Go to this office. Very few Customer Service staff comes here, but all of our customer's needs are supported here. This is where you complete task #2.
Task #2
Complete this crossword puzzle in 10 minutes or less. At the end of 10 minutes, any team that hasn't finished is eliminated. Teams that are successful receive the next clue.
