Cellulite has a bumpy, lumpy appearance under the skin.

Cellulite is excess fat immediately underneath the skin. It is a misconception that you must be overweight if you have cellulite. Even thin people may have cellulite. While it is genetic and some people are more prone to having visible cellulite, it can be prevented and reversed. Certain foods are more likely to cause a person to get cellulite.

  1. Fats

    • There are different types of fats in the foods we eat. Some are "good" fats and some are "bad" fats. Saturated fat is a bad fat and can cause cellulite and increase the risk of various different diseases. Saturated fats are mainly found in animal products, such as fattier cuts of red meat, bacon, butter, and whole dairy products such as cream. It is also found in palm and coconut oil.

    Processed Junk Food

    • There is nothing healthy about junk food. It isn't even real food. It is artificial, chemically enhanced and produced food. It is often full of trans fats and saturated fats and is full of sugar. The body cannot recognize the artificial chemicals used to produce the junk food and therefore cannot properly digest the food. Because of this, it is stored in the body as fat and more likely as cellulite. The bottom line is that junk food, such as potato chips, candy, pizza and French fries, causes cellulite.

    Alcohol

    • Alcohol is another culprit of cellulite. Since alcohol is not readily digested by the body, having more than one serving can cause the body to store the alcohol as fat and cellulite. Also, alcohol is high in calories and toxins that are unhealthy for the body. Alcohol can dehydrate the body and cause skin to lose elasticity, which makes cellulite more visible. It also increases the fat levels in blood and can cause poor circulation.

    What You Should Be Eating

    • Essential fatty acids is what you want to aim to eat more of if your goal is to diminish or prevent cellulite. Essential fatty acids are healthy for the body because they keep the cells flexible and strong. When the cells lose strength and flexibility, that is when the lumpy cellulite appearance shows up. It is also important to drink at least eight glasses of water a day to help keep your whole body and system hydrated and to flush out any toxins you may consume through food.
