Ashton Lane Restaurants

Ashton Lane, located in the West End of Glasgow, Scotland, is famous for its selection of restaurants and cafés. It is a small, cobbled street adjacent to Byres Road, and during the 1970s was full of dilapidated commercial buildings and empty homes. By the end of the 1970s nearby restaurants began relocating to Ashton Lane, and since then it has grown into a thriving hub of restaurants, cafés and bars.

The Ubiquitous Chip

The Ubiquitous Chip (ubiquitouschip.co.uk), also known as The Chip, is one of the oldest restaurants in Ashton Lane, celebrating its 40th birthday in 2011. Before it opened in Ashton Lane it was based at nearby Ruthven Lane, but relocated due to increasing lease costs. The Ubiquitous Chip offers many options for dining, from a quick lunch to a three-course dinner. The restaurant has a brasserie offering traditional Scottish cuisine, and a dedicated bar that serves pub food for customers who want to eat while having a drink.

Brel

Brel (brelbarrestaurant.com) is a Belgian restaurant and bar in Ashton Lane that offers both Belgian and Scottish bistro-style food. This restaurant is located in an historic building that used to be a stable and coach house. It has a private dining area on the first floor of its property that can be rented for private parties, business meetings and other events. There is a large variety of bottled and draft Belgian beers offered at the restaurant's bar.

Ashoka Ashton Lane

Ashoka Ashton Lane (ashokarestaurants.com) is an Indian restaurant, managed by a company that runs a total of 14 restaurants in Glasgow and other cities in Scotland. This restaurant has been serving traditional Indian dishes since the early '90s, and features an interesting mural depicting an Indian market on an interior wall. Ashoka Ashton Lane serves predominately Indian food, although it does offer some unique dishes that have a Scottish influence, like the Haggis Pakora.

Ketchup

Ketchup (no website; 44 Ashton Lane, Glasgow G12 8SJ; 0845-166-6011) is an American restaurant that opened in Ashton Lane in 2008. It specializes in American cuisine, and the majority of items on the menu here are burgers, ranging from simple cheeseburgers to much more elaborate offerings. Diners can try crocodile meat as well as ostrich meat in a burger if they dare. The burgers have names like Montezuma's Revenge and Jumping Jack Flash, and one of the extravagant desserts is called a Choccywoccydoodah.
