Fruit Cake Topper

Fruit is naturally beautiful because of their bright colors and pretty, natural shapes. Use fruit to top birthday cakes for a sophisticated appearance. Any flavor and shape of cake can be topped with fruit. Small round cakes look especially nice with a fruit topping. Frost the cake with icing of any flavor, and then arrange fruit on the top in a symmetrical pattern. Sliced strawberries, kiwis and bananas make nice toppings. Use one fruit or a mix of fruits to create your cake topper. Be sure to drain excess juice from the fruit before adding it to the cake top so the juice does not drain onto the cake and make it soggy.

When selecting a figurine, choose lighter weight objects so they will sit nicely on the cake top without sinking into it. Feather butterflies are also nice to add to cake tops. Usually on a wire, feather butterflies can be stuck directly into the cake and appear to flutter around the cake top.

A pretty birthday cake can be made with icing only designs. Flowers made from icing are a common cake design element. Roses can be easily made. Make some roses that are in full, open bloom and some that have yet to open. Add leaves to your design. Any beautiful object can be drawn to cake tops. Butterflies, humming birds or even a flowering tree can be drawn directly onto a sheet or round cake.
