Christian Ornament Crafts

People of various faiths celebrate the holiday season by decorating Christmas trees.

Christmas is a religious holiday traditionally celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. Christians may enjoy creating homemade ornaments with a religious or spiritual theme to celebrate the holiday season. These ornaments not only express your Christian faith, they serve a specific purpose of decorating your Christmas tree throughout the holiday season.

  1. Cardboard Jesus Sign

    • Using a piece of cardboard, trace the word "Jesus," keeping the letters close together. Cut out the word but keep it one long piece by not cutting out each letter individually. You can leave a section of the upper and bottom letters connected if you wish to achieve this. Using craft paint, paint both sides of your Jesus sign as you wish. You may choose to paint Christian symbols and designs on the sign as well. Allow the craft to dry completely. Punch a hole through the top of the J and the last S. Cut a piece of ribbon to match the colors on your sign and run through the holes and tie the loose ends in a bow.

    Hand-Painted Glass Ornament

    • Find a plain, round glass ornament that you would like to paint and decorate for a Christian Christmas ornament. With red, green, gold or silver craft paint, paint religious symbols around the ornament, such as crosses, doves or a nativity scene. Allow the paint to dry completely. Glue an artificial holly leaf and berries to the top of the ornament around the opening for the ornament hook. Allow the glue to dry completely before displaying your ornament on the tree.

    Jesus Fish Ornament

    • Fold a pipe cleaner in half and thread a craft bead to the folded point of the pipe cleaner. Thread an additional 15 craft beads on each side of the center craft bead. Twist the pipe cleaner behind the threaded beads to hold them in place. Bend the two small pieces of pipe cleaner remaining so that one is pointing up and one is pointing down to form a tail. Fill both of these remaining pieces of pipe cleaner with five beads for each side. Bend the remaining pipe cleaner section so that the tail beads are kept in place. Run a piece of ribbon through the body of the fish and tie the loose ends of ribbon into a bow.

    Craft Foam Ornaments

    • Cut out several different shapes from craft foam, such as ovals, circles, squares, stars and hearts. With additional craft foam of various colors, cut out smaller religious shapes, designs or words and glue these to the craft foam shapes you previously made. Punch a hole in the top of each ornament and run string, ribbon or yarn through each hole and tie in a bow.
