The Indian bridal tikka, or jewelry that hangs down on the forehead, often complements the makeup.

Indian bridal makeup mirrors the essence of the bride on her wedding day: it is elegant and exquisite. With dramatic eye makeup blended to perfection and bold red-toned lips, the Indian bride is made to look nothing short of stunning on her big day. Red is the traditional color of choice for the bridal saree, or sari, and makeup works hand-in-hand with the dress. Red lips often complement the red bridal saree. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Airbrush Foundation

    • Foundation worn on the wedding day needs to last the entire day without smudging or wearing off. One alternative to a daily liquid or mineral-based foundation is airbrush foundation. Airbrush foundation provides excellent coverage while also avoiding a painted-on look. With airbrush technique, contouring the cheekbones is also possible. A soft finish can be obtained with airbrush foundation. Avoid heavy, pancake-like makeup on your wedding day. With the many pictures that will be taken, flawless skin is important.

    Dramatic Eyes

    • The eyes play an important role in Indian wedding makeup. Expressive, dramatic eyes are seen on many Indian brides. Apply an eyeshadow primer to the lids before applying any makeup. This helps eyeshadow stay in place and prevents it from creasing. Use a dark brown eyeshadow with a contouring brush to contour the crease of the eye. A gold-toned eyeshadow can be applied to the outer crease. Applying a light shimmery pearl to the inner corner of the eye makes the eyes pop and creates a bright, open effect. Apply a dark kajol eyeliner to the upper and lower lash lines.

    Cheeks

    • Sculpted cheekbones assist in creating a contoured look. A powder approximately two shades darker than your natural skin tone should be used with an angled blush brush to contour the cheek bones. Start from the point that aligns with the middle of your eye just underneath the cheekbone and blend upwards in a diagonal direction. Apply a rose blush to the apples of the cheeks. A liquid illuminator can be applied gently with the fingertips just above the cheekbone for a subtle glow.

    Lips

    • Apply a lip balm a few minutes before applying lipstick. This helps prevent the lips from drying out. Line the outside of the lips with a red lip liner. Blend the liner slightly. Apply a matte red-toned lipstick to the lips in two coats. If desired, finish off the lips with a hint of lip gloss. Apply the gloss directly to the middle of the lips to create the illusion of fuller lips.
