Can You Access Email With a Kindle?
The Kindle device was the No. 1 seller for Amazon.com for 2009 and 2010, and is the "most-wished-for, most-gifted, and has the most 5-star reviews of any product on Amazon," according to the website. While the Kindle is predominantly an electronic reader, it does have some other capabilities, such as Internet access, which are still considered "experimental" offerings. The Web browser on the Kindle can be used to access email, but it may be done a bit differently than email access from a computer.

Kindle Web Browser
-
The Kindle Web browser is an experimental feature that is still in the testing stages, according to Amazon. While the Web browser on the Kindle device is not equal in speed or navigation to that of a personal computer, it does allow users to access most Internet sites, and therefore most email accounts, via the pre-set bookmarks in the Kindle's "Experimental" menu.
Kindle Pre-Loaded Bookmarks
-
When the "Launch Web Browser" option is chosen in the Kindle "Experimental" menu, it will load a series of bookmarks. These bookmarks include Amazon, Amazon UK, Wikipedia, Google, Yahoo!, New York Times, BBC, Facebook, Twitter, ESPN and the Internet Movie Database. Two bookmarks directly access Web browsers: Google and Yahoo!. One of these two bookmarks must be chosen to access email accounts.

Email Login Screens
-
Kindle can select the "Mail" option -- present on the Yahoo! browser home screen -- or the "Gmail" option -- present on the Google browser home screen. For other email, such as Hotmail, users must type a query for the name of that email into a Kindle Web browser. For example, a Hotmail user would need to type "Hotmail" into the Google or Yahoo! search box to get a clickable link to access Hotmail.
Email Login Navigation
-
Email navigation on the Kindle uses the five-way directional pad on the right side of the Kindle device. The Kindle automatically divides the screen into quadrants, upon which users can click the plus sign to zoom in on a designated area. Kindle users must select the section of the screen containing the email login field and zoom in to that section, then use the directional pad to go to the fields for account name and password. Following the completion of those fields, users must click the directional pad down to highlight the "Log in" screen for that email.
