Chokers are a type of necklace. Rather than resting on the chest, they sit tight around the neck or on the base of the neck, giving a distinctive style. Silver is a common and attractive material with which to make chokers. Different types of silver chokers can be worn to create or fit in with a particular look or style. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Rigid Silver Chokers

    • These are silver chokers that are made of a single rigid piece of silver. They normally sit right at the base of the neck. They can be a plain piece of silver that forms a ring shape, or they can be shaped to form a pattern. This might be a zigzag or wave pattern. If a thick piece of silver is used to form the choker, then it could be engraved with a pattern. Rigid chokers can also be made of more than one piece of silver in a plait or twist.

    Pendant Silver Chokers

    • Pendant silver chokers have a necklace around the neck that loops through a pendant. Either the pendant, the necklace or both can be made of silver. The necklace part is often a silver chain, but it could also be a rigid silver choker or a piece of ribbon, leather or other fabric. The pendant part can be anything with a loop attached that the necklace can be fed through. It could be a traditional cameo, a gemstone set in silver or a silver shape.

    Silver Chokers with Gemstones

    • Sometimes silver chokers are set with gemstones. These might be relatively low value stones such as amber or high value stones such as diamonds. Gemstones might be set into the silver all around the choker, or there might just be one in the center. Sometimes, a mixture of gemstones might be used. The stones might also be set into a pattern in the silver.

    Silver Chain Chokers

    • Chokers can be a simple silver chain of any style or thickness. Different types of chain will suit different people's personal style. Any kind of chain style can be used for a choker. A cable chain is a series of simple linked rings. A herringbone chain is a series of links set close together in a herringbone pattern. A curb chain is made of oval shaped links. These and any other types of chain can form a choker.
