  1. Halloween Parades

    • Parading through the streets in a costume made specifically for Halloween is a fun activity for people everywhere. Simply watching the parade of unbelievable costumes pass by is also fun. A very highly acclaimed parade is the Village Halloween Parade in Greenwich Village, located in New York City. It takes place at night, and consists of puppets, music, dancers and thousands of people in costume. It is considered the nation's largest public Halloween celebration.

    Haunted Houses and Hayrides

    • Creeping through a dark house with ghouls around every corner or riding on a wagon through a dark "trail of terror" are both activities many people love to do for Halloween. In Ulster Park, New York, the Headless Horseman Hayrides & Haunted Houses have been voted the number one Haunted Attraction in the United States by Haunt World magazine. The event consists of five different haunted houses, a corn maze, a 1-mile spooky hayride and shops and concessions.

Decorating pumpkins and participating in costume contests are both part of the Halloween experience. In Brooklyn, New York, Fort Greene Park hosts a free annual Halloween Festival for adults and children. It includes pumpkins to decorate, stilt-walkers, games, hay rides, sack races, face painting and entertainers. There is also a costume parade and a spooky cemetery with scary luminaries. A dog and owner costume contest is a fun part of the festivities as well.

    Halloween Parties

    • Disguising yourself in a costume and dancing the night away are Halloween ideas usually for those of legal drinking age. Many places offer Halloween parties. In New York City, Nightmare at the Dream Hotel is a very popular party with three levels of fun, including the Penthouse Ava Lounge with a great view of the city. DJs are in charge of the music, and you must be at least 21 years of age to attend.
