Activities for a Church's Singles Ministry

A church singles ministry allows unattached adults to meet others who share the same beliefs and enjoy spending time together. According to the British Columbia Adventist Single Adult Ministries, in addition to forming small groups, social events are key to developing community for this group. Offer a variety of events to accommodate all ages and interests.

Dance Party

Casual dress will be fine since this is not a formal event.

Host a dance party at your church location. Use sound equipment provided from the church to play CDs of Christian rock or other age-appropriate music. If members of your singles ministry are musically talented or in a band, ask if they will play during your party. Offer beverages such as a fruit punch for guests attending the dance party. Dancing is fun and can be romantic for two people who make a connection.

Sports Night

Singles can show off their athletic prowess.

Sports activities will appeal to many in your singles group. Exercise and sports play can create a comfortable environment for healthy competition. Allow both men and women to participate in the same sports events. If your church has a gymnasium, this location will be ideal for a sports night. During good weather, a park will work as a meeting area if it provides lights during evening hours. If your sports night goes well, ask members to sign up on teams to continue athletic events in the future.

Potluck Dinner

Host your potluck dinner outdoors during nice weather.

Have your singles prepare food for a potluck dinner. Each group member will make a dish to share with the group. This will give singles the chance to dine with people of interest while they are surrounded by friends. This is a safe way to group-date or share time building friendships. To make sure there is a variety of food, have your singles use a sign-up sheet to display what they will bring.

Movie Night

Have a movie night at your church or at the home of a group member. Choose a comedy movie to promote shared laughter. Serve popcorn and soda as treats during the movie presentation. After the movie, have social hour. During this time, group members can discuss the movie and make small talk with others.
