What Are the Qualities to Admire in a Boss?

Just as your boss looks for qualities to admire in you during the interview process, look for qualities to admire in your boss. Most managers work extremely hard and aim to provide the best work environment possible to their employees. However, not all bosses are created equal. Some bosses have special characteristics that really set them apart from the crowd.

  • An admirable boss is focused and flexible. It is so important that a boss be flexible because things change and difficulties may arise with every project. Bosses who are too stuck in their ways to allow their employees to come up with their own ideas will lose out on many good ideas. Flexibility creates opportunities.

  • Not all bosses value communication with their employees. Some bosses are extremely hard to get ahold of. A boss who spends time communicating effectively with employees despite a busy schedule should be admired. By communicating openly with employees, bosses create a creative and efficient atmosphere and build a high morale workplace for the whole team.

  • Part of leading a team is being an excellent coach. Bosses must take the time to train their team so that they are at the top of their game. Bosses must recognize their team's strengths and weaknesses and give them roles within the company where they have the best chance for success. Although managing a business in this way is difficult, bosses who do this are admired.

  • Integrity means that a person firmly adheres to a strong code of moral values. Such persons always do what they say they will do. It is often difficult for bosses to not go back on their word and be loyal because of competing responsibilities. However, bosses who have a lot of integrity and can maintain it in the workplace deserve respect. It takes courage and strength to act in integrity in an office setting.
