Healthy nail growth is possible with care and diligence.

There are a variety of beneficial products to help your nails grow thick and strong. Unhealthy nails can be painful, particularly when suffering from a hangnail or infection. Hands can also look unsightly if nails are not cared for properly -- with issues such as yellowing nails and ridges. Choose the right products to maintain healthy nails. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Base Coat

    • Nail polish can make nails look beautiful, but it can also damage nails. The chemicals used in nail polish can have adverse effects on your health. In order to help reduce the risk of the chemicals being absorbed, use a natural base coat for healthy nails. A base coat will also help reduce the risks of chipped and cracked nails.

    Moisturizer

    • Cuticles are important because they help block nail roots from harmful chemicals, which is why they should never be cut. Natural moisturizers are just what your cuticles need for healthy nail growth. Cuticles that are not moisturized can result in painful hangnails and cracked cuticles. In addition to using natural moisturizers, you can also use creams that are designed specifically for cuticles. Many of these creams contain beneficial vitamins, such as vitamin E.

    Nail File and Nail Clipper

    • Filing nails will help maintain healthy nail growth. Jagged nails run the risk of getting caught on objects and ripping or tearing. Cutting nails with a nail clipper and filing nails also helps keep nails at a manageable length. Keeping nails short will reduce the risk of your nails breaking.

    Vitamins and Minerals

    • Consuming the right vitamins and minerals has a beneficial effect on healthy nail growth. Choose food products rich in vitamin A, such as broccoli, to prevent dry and brittle nails. Eat foods with vitamin B, such as fresh green beans, to reduce ridges in nails. Foods with calcium, such as yogurt, are necessary for nails to grow. Supplements are another way to get the vitamins needed if the right foods are not being consumed.
