Incorporate calligraphy-inspired art to energize your work space environment.

Jazz up or create a specific sentiment or energy in the work space environment using calligraphy art. Incorporate the delicate strokes used in calligraphy to invoke an uplifting energy through a written poem, affirmation or meditation for your day. Practice this writing art form and style by drawing the numbers of the month for a daily office calendar as well as depicting the changing seasons.

  1. Chinese Calligraphy

    • Interpret the delicate strokes invoking uplifting poems or affirmative symbols through Chinese calligraphy. Beginners can enjoy this art form as a hobby by learning the stroke direction and the many different character structures as well as the methods used to convey specific messages through the lines. Chinese calligraphy uses four basic elements which are paper, brushes, ink and ink stone. According to the "Chinese Calligraphy Bible," "Duan yan" and "She yan" are the two most famous ink stones used to grind ink. The ink stone is usually made of stone or clay with a smooth surface to prevent damage to the ink stick. Use this method to recreate a favorite poem or saying for your work space using soft or bright colors complementing the area.

    Daily Calendar

    • Making an inspirational daily numerical or monthly calendar can immediately change the décor of your office space. For example, certain companies discourage any personal photographs or items to ensure a noncompetitive work environment. However, calendars are needed for meetings as well project deadlines. By including a calligraphy-inspired calendar, you can choose a color scheme and add a delicate silk flower plant, which is usually allowed.

    Seasons

    • Change the mood instantly by making calligraphy seasonal banners depicting spring, summer, fall and winter. Select specific colors for the calligraphy paper as well as inks. Use different brush widths to create a heavier feeling for fall and winter and narrow widths for wispy strokes for spring and summer. The banner can hang inconspicuously in your cubicle for your viewing only, changing your mood instantly as the day progresses.

    Meditations

    • For small space work areas, make a mini calligraphy art hanging or frame measuring 4-by-6-in. Practice the calligraphy letters on scrap paper, using large scale strokes. As you progress, duplicate the calligraphy to fit the small framed area. Find a meditative phrase to change your mood on challenging work days to calm or motivate you instantly. Choose your favorite colors as a secondary influence bringing the meditation to the forefront when repeated internally as a chant or mantra.
