Keeping a clean kitchen is imperative to the health of you and your family. As it tends to be the busiest room of the house it also tends to be the toughest to keep clean. Having a handy kit of the right cleaning supplies on hand at all times is helpful. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. General Cleansers

    • Keep a variety of your favorite cleansers on hand for cleaning your kitchen, including dish soap, all-purpose cleanser, glass cleaner and a mild abrasive cleanser. As needed, stainless steel, copper, and aluminum cleaners are good to have around.

    Vinegar

    • Vinegar, which is inexpensive, safe and probably in your kitchen already, is the wunderkind of the cleaning world, as it is effective for removing grime and grease. Vinegar has many uses around the kitchen, including cleaning windows, refrigerators, coffee makers and garbage disposals. Vinegar also can replace expensive stainless steel and brass cleaners, get rid of smells and will deter ants in the kitchen.

    Baking Soda

    • Along with vinegar, baking soda is an inexpensive and powerful tool in the kitchen. Baking soda acts as a mild abrasive and cleans counter tops and sinks, tile, chrome, steel, enamel and plastic without chemical residue. In addition, when combined with vinegar, it can unclog sinks and clean the oven. Don't forget its deoderizing power in your refrigerator and freezer.

    Bleach and Ammonia

    • Versatile bleach whitens and disinfects most surfaces and is a star degreaser, stain remover. Make sure you don't mix bleach with anything but soap and water. Ammonia is also quite versatile and is effective for cleaning walls, windows, floors, sinks and tiles. Do not let ammonia come in contact with bleach as it creates a noxious gas.

    Accoutrements

    • In addition to elbow grease, you will need sponges (new and old), cloths/rags, paper towels, soft cloths, spray bottles (for your solutions), a pair of rubber gloves and scouring pads. Also, a variety of brushes will be helpful including dish, bottle and tooth brushes. You can keep all handy in a bucket, which is useful for cleaning as well.
