Churches can plan creative worship services on the beach for small groups or the entire congregation.

The beach provides a scenic setting in sight, sound and smell for a memorable worship service. For churches located close to the beach, or for groups on a trip, a worship service on the beach can create a lasting memory. Creative planners can use the beach for several themes to bring God's truth to life.

  1. Baptism Service

    • A baptism service on the beach can bring the whole church body together in celebration for those being baptized. The leader of the service can begin the service in prayer. A few songs can be shared using a guitar, and then those being baptized can go into the water. Doing the baptism to sunset adds beauty to the event.

    Lesson From a Boat

    • Invite church members or a youth group to a service on the beach. Encourage them to bring lawn chairs and blankets. After music the teacher climbs into a small boat and is pushed out a little ways from the beachfront. He reads from Luke 5:3 where Jesus did the same thing one day on the shores of Galilee. Jesus taught from the boat because sound travels better over water and because the crowd was so large.

    Sunrise Service

    • Plan an early morning beach service on Easter Sunday to celebrate the resurrection. Get to the beach just before sunrise and spend time in prayer and singing. As the sun begins to rise, sing a celebration song of the resurrection and in a circle holding hands, pray together. Be sure to spend time in silence, encouraging members to listen to the sounds of nature while reflecting on the miracle of the resurrection.

    Fish Fry Service

    • In John 21, Jesus cooks fish for his disciples after the resurrection. Plan a fish fry for a youth or adult group on the beach, and read from this episode. Discuss while eating what the disciples must have experienced seeing their risen leader cooking them fish and eating with them. Follow the fish fry with beach games and singing, celebrating the victory of the resurrection.
