Ariel Cake Decorating Ideas
"The Little Mermaid" is a classic fairy tale by Hans Christian Anderson that tells the story of a mermaid who falls in love with a human prince and seeks to become human herself to win his love. The story was adapted in the early 1990s by Disney to become the beloved children's animated feature with the title character named Ariel, a mermaid with flaming red hair. Create Ariel-inspired cakes for princess and mermaid-themed birthday parties. Does this Spark an idea?

Ariel-Shaped Cake
-
Use an Ariel face-shaped cake pan if possible and two rectangular cakes for the body. The cake is cut to resemble Ariel's body shape including her tail along with extra cake pieces on each side to work as "rocks" for Ariel to sit on. Use green frosting for the tail and rocks, though brown frosting is also used for the rocks. Create a light cream frosting shade for Ariel's skin and red frosting for her hair. Purple frosting is used for her shell bra and flower hair accessories.
Ariel Barbie Doll Cake
-
Use an Ariel doll (similar to a Barbie doll) for this cake, or spray paint a Barbie doll's hair red if no Ariel dolls are available. Create a round, two-layer cake and decorate the hole of it with light greenish-blue frosting. Decorate the cake edges with purple frosting and melting chocolate shaped like shells and painted coral colors. Melt and paint chocolate in the shape of spindly coral pieces to add as background for the doll or use plastic coral pieces from an aquarium store. Write "Happy Birthday [Name]" in the remaining space on top of the cake in purple frosting.

Three Cake Display
-
Make three small, round, two-layer cakes. Decorate two of the cakes with blue frosting and the sides with fish, shell and seaweed-shaped frosting designs. Sketch or trace images of Ariel's sidekick Flounder (a chubby yellow and blue fish) and Sebastian (a bright red lobster) and make outlines of each character on each cake with black frosting. Fill in the images with blue, yellow and red frosting. Decorate the third cake with a brownish frosting as a "rock" for Ariel to sit on. Use blue frosting around the bottom edges as "waves" and break graham crackers into triangular shapes for the tail. Decorate with green frosting and wrap an Ariel doll's leg in plastic wrap before sticking her in front of the tail from the waist up.
Sheet Cake
-
Use a sheet cake to create an Ariel frosting display. Place blue frosting over the entire cake for an under-the-sea look. Trace or sketch a large design of Ariel (one that will cover most of the cake top) and use black frosting to draw the design on the cake. Fill the Ariel shape in with tan, purple, green and red frosting. The image of Ariel lying down propping her face up with one of her hands is an option for such a display. Use assorted greens and other bright colors to create surrounding seaweed and underwater flowers.
