Create invitations inspired by Catholic symbols for a First Communion celebration.

First Communion is the first time a person takes in the body and blood of Jesus Christ at Mass in the Catholic religion. After this momentous step, many families throw a party to celebrate the occasion. To invite your guests to the First Communion and the celebration to follow, design handmade invitations. Use common First Communion symbols, such as a rosary or a Bible to create them.

  1. Bible

    • Create folded cards and decorate them to look like the cover of a Bible. Use heavy card stock in your choice of colors and fold it in half. With the fold of the card on the left, decorate the front of the card. Add a cross and the words "Holy Bible." Inside the card, write the First Communion details. If you want the guests to attend just the celebration afterwards, do not include the date and time of the actual Mass.

    Cross

    • The cross is a symbol of Jesus Christ's sacrifice. Use the Christian symbol to create a First Communion invitation. Cut a piece of 4-inch-by-6-inch heavy card stock into a cross shape. Across the arms of the cross, write a welcome message to the guests explaining the purpose of the invitation. On the back of the cross, write the celebration information, including the date, time and location of the celebration.

    Goblet

    • The symbol for the blood of Jesus Christ is wine, usually served at Mass in a goblet-shaped vessel. Cut out a goblet shape from a piece of silver or gold colored craft paper. Attach the cutout to the front of a blank folded card. Write your invitation information on the inside of the card. As an additional detail, include a small white circle with at the base of the goblet to represent the body of Jesus Christ.

    Postcards

    • For another option, print a photograph to create your invitations. Use a photograph of the church, the person receiving first communion or a Bible and rosary. Print out enough copies for each guest. Write the invitation details on the back of the photograph on the left-hand side. Write the guests' mailing information on the right-hand side and mail it like a postcard. Alternatively, place the picture inside an envelope to mail it.
