A snowflake tattoo is not only beautiful on an arm, foot or shoulder, but can represent the wearer’s belief that just like a snowflake, no two of us are alike. Many times done in blues or black and gray, the snowflake graphic can be delicate and lacy or done in a more stylized tribal pattern, making it a reasonable choice for a male or female. Although a snowflake tattoo seems like a straightforward tattoo request, you can make your snowflake tattoo more personal with a few custom suggestions to your artist.
Celebrate your favorite season with not just a single snowflake, but a whole snowstorm. Sprinkle snowflake images of different sizes and styles over a large area such as your back, around a leg or upper arm. Each snowflake will be similar in style, but uniquely different to one another as they are in nature. When inked in a blue, black and white, the tattoo has depth and dimension, and garners interest from viewers.
Fantasy lovers can add a romantic character to a snowflake themed tattoo when they include a snow queen figure into the image. A person’s back area has room for a snow queen character standing among falling snowflakes. A tattoo like this will appear like a fanciful winter wonderland that could represent peace and tranquility. For a smaller area, an artist can incorporate a face, fairy or other stylized character in the center of the snowflake.
Many snowflake tattoos attempt to mimic the lacy and delicate nature of a real snowflake by using thin lines and light-handed designs. For a more masculine snowflake tattoo, apply the tribal style of art to the basic image. A tribal snowflake will be dark with thick lines and sharp edges. The tribal style snowflake will look much more graphic and would be ideal for an upper arm or shoulder tattoo.
A Celtic snowflake tattoo uses the traditional Celtic knot and braid as well as the detailed La Tene design. A snowflake can be created using the La Tene spirals and leaf shapes and will incorporate a center, interlaced knot to represent the unique and yet interconnected spirit. A Trinity knot can be used to represent faith or a Lover’s knot could be used to represent a special relationship. No matter what specific design is used, the snowflake will look delicate and complex.
Ask your tattoo artist to incorporate something entirely personal into your snowflake design to create a lighthearted and visually interesting design. For example, if you move a lot, make a snowflake out of skeleton keys to represent your journey. If you are a motorcyclist, make the center of your snowflake the odometer of your bike. No matter what it is that makes you special, your tattoo artist can integrate some symbol of that into your distinctive snowflake tattoo.
