Pizza is always a hit at kid parties.

Your little one will be turning 8 soon, and likely has some definite ideas about his birthday party theme or color scheme. Chances are your little one has clear food favorites at this point as well, which you can incorporate into the birthday party menu, making the food one of the most enjoyable aspects of your child's eighth birthday celebration. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Taco Bar

    • A taco bar is a great idea for a fiesta-themed party, or if your daughter loves Mexican food. Use the main party table to set up the celebration meal, using colorful bowls filled with items like shredded cheese, cubed tomatoes, black olives and avocado slices. Saute ground beef, chicken or meat substitute for the taco filling, and offer your daughter's guests flour and corn tortillas, as well as taco shells to fill with the goodies you've prepared. This is an easy meal to put together, and ideal for children with food allergies, since kids can choose what they want in their tacos, and children with a wheat allergy have the option of a corn tortilla. Add other fiesta elements like a pinata filled with the candies your daughter likes best to complete the party theme.

    Build-Your-Own Sundae

    • Ice cream is always a favorite at kid's birthday parties, and you can make your son's eighth birthday one he won't soon forget with an elaborate sundae bar. Give each child a plastic bowl filled with vanilla ice cream, or a dairy-free variety for children with an allergy, and set up a table filled with sundae fixings like crushed pineapple, chopped nuts, cherries, bananas, sprinkles and chocolate syrup. Let each child pile their sundaes high with their favorite toppings, and present your son with a giant cookie iced with his favorite cartoon character, in lieu of a cake to serve with the ice cream.

    Pizza

    • Pizza is a favorite party food regardless of your child's age, but you can make your little girl's eighth birthday special by allowing her and her friends to customize the pizzas. Present each child with a mini pizza crust and add pizza sauce to each crust. Fire up the grill, then let the kids choose from the toppings you've provided like cheese, mushrooms, sausage pieces, pepperoni and pineapple wedges to add to their pizzas before you cook them on the grill. Or, make pizza rolls using crescent rolls, pizza sauce and shredded cheese, and give your daughter and her friends dipping sauces like zesty marinara or pesto to dip the rolls in.

    Hamburgers and Hot Dogs

    • If your son wants a sports-related theme for his eighth birthday party, serve hot dogs or hamburgers at the event. Grill turkey, beef and veggie burgers to offer more options for guests, as well as an array of sandwich accents like slices of cheese and tomatoes, and condiments like ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise. Or, prepare hot dogs with a choice of condiments or toppings. Present your son and the party-goers with other game day treats as well, like caramel popcorn, flavored peanuts and nachos to complete the celebration theme.
