Several scholarship programs are available to students pursuing degrees in chemical engineering. The American Chemical Society and American Institute of Chemical Engineers are the two prominent professional organizations that offer scholarships specifically to chemical engineering students. In addition, the Society of Women Engineers administers several scholarship programs limited to chemical engineering students. Many colleges and universities also offer departmental scholarships to attending students.
American Institute of Chemical Engineers
The American Institute of Chemical Engineers offers several scholarship programs to chemical engineering students. The Carboline-NACE Foundation Scholarship is available in the amount of $15,000 to undergraduates. Fifteen Donald F. & Mildred Topp Othmer National Scholarship Awards valued at $1,000 are awarded each year to AIChE student members. The $5,000 John J. McKetta Undergraduate Scholarship is available to chemical engineering students with a GPA of 3.0 or better. The AIChE also awards Minority Scholarship Awards for College Students and Minority Scholarship Awards for Incoming College Freshmen.
American Chemical Society
The American Chemical Society offers several scholarship programs to chemical engineering students. The ACS Scholars Program provides up to $15,000 to chemical engineering students of minority ethnicity. ACS-Hach Land Grant Undergraduate Scholarships are available in amounts of up to $6,000 per year for up to six years to chemical engineering students attending one of 72 land grant universities. The American Chemical Society also makes awards of up to $5,000 to former Project SEED participants.
Society of Women Engineers
If you are a female student, consider applying for several SWE scholarships available to chemical engineering majors. Scholarships available to incoming freshmen include the $2,000 Chevron Emerging Engineer Scholarship and the $5,000 Honeywell Scholarship. Scholarships for current undergraduates include the $5,000 Boston Scientific Scholarship, the $2,000 Chevron Scholarship, the $1,000 DuPont Scholarship and the Kellogg's Scholarship. Scholarships open to both undergraduate and graduate students include the $5,000 Baker Hughes Scholarship, $2,400 Caterpillar Inc. Scholarship and the $1,000 Cummins Scholarship.
Most colleges and universities that offer degrees in chemical engineering also offer departmental scholarships specifically for chemical engineering students. For example, the Department of Engineering at Virginia Tech offers more than 20 scholarships to attending students, including the Gerhard Beyer Scholarship and the Warren T. Gentry Scholarship. The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Western Michigan University provides three scholarships specifically to chemical engineering majors. These are the Armstrong Energy Management Scholarship, Paper Technology Foundation Scholarships and the Chemical Engineering Endowed Scholarship.
