Post-Prom Themes

There are many options for post-prom themes.

A teenager's prom is a much-anticipated event in high school. After the dance is over, many schools sponsor a post-prom, or after-prom party at the school or another location. The idea behind most after-prom celebrations is to give teens a fun, safe option for after the dance. The theme for the post-prom celebration will set the mood for the event, so creativity is a must. Whatever theme is chosen, consider creating a souvenir T-shirt for all students who attend. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Hollywood

    • Consider creating a Hollywood theme. Students can enter on a red carpet with "paparazzi," also known as the parents, taking pictures of them. Decorations could include a fake "Hollywood" sign reminiscent of the mountain sign in California, film reels and old-style movie cameras. Decorate using glamorous colors such as black and gold or red. There could also be movie trivia games about classic and current popular movies to win prizes. Prizes could include movie tickets and gift cards for movie rentals or electronics stores.

    World Tour

    • Choose four to five countries with diverse cultures and use them as a theme for the post prom party. Depending on the party location, set up areas so students can "visit" each country. Each area could include decorations, a country-themed photo booth, music and games centered around that country's culture. The country areas could include snack samples relevant to that country's cuisine. Possible country themes could include France, Italy, India, England, Australia, China or Spain.

    Casino Royale

    • A casino royale theme could pull from the lights and glamor of Las Vegas as well as the excitement of casino games. Set up black jack and poker tables with volunteers serving as the dealers. Instead of gambling real money, give students a certain amount of tokens or pretend money that can later be traded in for prizes. Decorations can center around the colors black and red, as seen in a deck of cards. Set up a photo booth with a digital camera or a Polaroid that can serve as a souvenir.

    Retro

    • While today's high school students were not around for the '60s, '70s or even the '80s, they can still appreciate the music and appeal of each decade. Similar to the World Tour theme, set up areas around the location to center around each decade. Feature popular music from each decade for a dance party. Students can play trivia games with questions about pop culture from each decade. For the '60s or '70s area, students can make tie-dye shirts as souvenirs. Set up an area with clothes and accessories from each decade with a photo booth that can also serve as a souvenir.
