Ideas for Making Magnets
Magnets are an easy craft for kids to make as gifts for special occasions. Friends and relatives love to receive a personal, handmade gift. Plus, magnets are useful and easy to display. You can purchase various-sized magnets at arts and crafts stores or recycle unwanted magnets. Add other basic craft supplies, and you've got a magnet suitable for gift-giving.

Photo Magnet
-
Use the round metal lid off a concentrated juice can to trace a circle around the photo you want to display. Attach a small magnetic disc to the back of the lid with craft glue. Cut out the picture and glue it onto the lid. Put glue around the edge of the lid and dip it in glitter. Allow the magnet to dry before you display.
Helping Hand
-
Trace you child's hand on cardboard. Cut out the shape and glue a flexible magnetic strip or attach magnetic tape on the back. Have your child decorate the hand print using markers, paint or glitter. Craft gem stickers make fancy fingernails. Another idea for the "Helping Hand" magnet is to use craft paint to make your child's hand print. These handy magnets will be perfect gifts for a grandparent or teacher.

Magnetic Frame
-
Use a magnetic sheet which can be purchased at craft and office supply stores. Cut out a 3-by-5-inch rectangle from the center with a craft knife. Decorate the outer rectangle as a frame, using stickers or gluing on small decorations. Allow the frame to dry and center it over a photo to hang on any metal surface.
Recycle Toys
-
Instead of throwing away small toys that are left over from old sets or games, reuse them as magnets. Toys like a domino, rubber frog or small plastic building block can be attached to a small magnet disc with craft glue or a hot glue gun. Extra letter tiles could be used to spell out a name. These magnets will look perfect on a magnetic board in the kids' room or over their desk.
