Ideas for Decorating a Bulletin Board for a Church's 50th Anniversary
A church's golden anniversary deserves a grand celebration. The pastor, the church buildings and furnishings may have changed, but the church and its congregation have endured for 50 years -- a major accomplishment by any measure. A year-long celebration is in order, with banquets, picnics and prayer meetings that honor the 50-year milestone. Decorating the church's bulletin boards in the golden anniversary theme will help church members and visitors participate in the festivities.

Fifty Years Ago
-
Research what was happening 50 years ago, and use those people and events to decorate a bulletin board in a "50 years ago" theme. Find out what films, plays, music and television series were popular then. Look at archives of national magazines to see who was on the cover. Identify local, regional and national politicians who were well known. Use those images to create a bulletin board that depicts life as it was when the church was formed 50 years ago.
Forgiven Through the Decades
-
Interview church members and identify at least one individual from the last five decades who accepted Christ during each decade. Type up the interviews in a variety of fonts and colors so that each one looks special. Include a photo of the member -- from the decade when they accepted Christ, if they can provide one. Divide the bulletin board into five sections, one for each decade, and post the church members' stories of salvation, from oldest to most recent.

Guess Who?
-
Collect photographs of current church members who belonged to the church 50 years ago. Try to collect some children's photos and some adults' photos. If you can't locate photos for some of the members, type up a description of a member or a "fun fact" about that person. Enlarge the photos and print out the descriptions, and post them on the bulletin board. Announce a "Guess Who" contest to the congregation where members try to guess the identities of the members whose photos and descriptions are on the board.
Future Vision
-
Ask the children in the congregation to create a vision of what the church will be like 50 years in the future. Tell them to address a topic such as how members will get to church, what the sanctuary will look like, what people will wear to church, what the church's 100-year anniversary party will involve and so forth. Each child can create a drawing, a collage or a poster that captures her vision for the church's 100th anniversary. Post these works of art on a bulletin board so the entire congregation can appreciate them.
