Baby blocks make a good craft project for baby pictures.

Baby pictures show the start to a person's life. But how do we preserve those memories. Most people just store these pictures in a box or album, but then others aren't able to enjoy them. You also don't want to destroy a professional picture by cutting it up, putting glue on it or mounting it to some type of backing board. So what can you do? There are easy ways to display those pictures without destroying the professional ones.

  1. Baby Blocks

    • Purchase some blank baby blocks from any craft store. These are readily available and come in a variety of sizes. Either print your own pictures or make copies of the professional pictures of your baby. Place the block on a piece of clear plastic and trace around it. Cut out this template. Now place the clear plastic on the picture, making sure you get the part of the picture you want, trace the template, and cut out. The block has six sides so you will want to do this for six pictures. Once the pictures are cut out, apply a good quality wood glue to the block and apply one picture to each side of the block. Allow the glue to dry at least 24 hours and then apply a nontoxic varnish. By making several of these, you can place them around the room as different display areas. By using a nontoxic varnish, you can also allow your child to play with the blocks.

    Picture Frames

    • Picture frames for that special baby picture can be quite expensive to purchase, so why not make your own? An easy frame to make is to purchase an unfinished wood frame from any craft store and embellish it yourself. A fun idea for embellishments is to make copies of your pictures and cut them up, making sure your sizes fit the frame and include the face of the child. Dry-fit the pieces to the frame before applying wood glue to the back of each piece and applying it to the frame. Apply a nontoxic varnish to the frame after the glue has dried. Use copies of the same picture you are going to put into the frame to glue around the frame for an interesting display.

    Collages

    • Collages are fun and easy to make. These work very well for poster frames. Make copies of your pictures and lay them out on the backing that comes with the poster frame. A fun idea here is to have some of the faces peeking out from behind other pictures. Use one of your pictures and print/copy it in reverse. Then place the original and the copy so they face each other on the collage. Another cute idea is to add baby pictures of other family members into the collage and see if others can determine who is who.

    Puzzles

    • Jigsaw puzzles can be made from your baby pictures by applying the picture to a heavy-duty poster board or frame-matting material. Once the picture has been applied and the glue has dried, use a sharp craft knife to cut the picture into shapes. You don't have to make squiggly lines, just use a straight edge as a guide. Now you have a toy for your child to play with or a display for your coffee table that guests can play with. You can also find an old jigsaw puzzle and glue your picture to it. You then have a template for cutting.
