Catholic High Schools in Houston, Texas
The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston offers eight Catholic high schools in Houston, Texas as of 2011. The schools are accredited by the Texas Education Agency through the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department. Application deadlines for each school vary, but you can download application packets from each school on the school's website.

Boys

You can select either St. Thomas High School (sths.org) or Strake Jesuit College Prep (strakejesuit.org) for an all-boys Catholic high school experience in Houston. Both schools offer advanced placement classes with selections such as chemistry, calculus, computer science and foreign languages. Onsite counselors are available to assist students with making decisions regarding daily life concerns and college preparation, and, according to the schools' websites, 98 percent of the boys attend four-year colleges after graduating. Strake Jesuit offers parking for students, and St. Thomas expects to complete its 433-vehicle parking structure in April 2011. Tuition at St. Thomas is $12,300, and at Strake Jesuit, you will pay $14,500 annually for the 2010/2011 school year.
Girls

Catholic high school options for young ladies in the Houston area include Duquesne Academy (duchesne.org), Incarnate Word (incarnateword.org) or St. Agnes Academy (st-agnes.org). The schools provide counselors to help the girls make life choices and plan for college. Advanced placement choices include foreign languages, geography, calculus, chemistry and world history. All three schools offer student parking, and Incarnate Word also provides bus services for its students. Tuition for the 2010/2011 school year at Incarnate Word is $9,100, and at St. Agnes, you will pay $13,650. At both schools, you may pay annually, in installments each semester, or obtain a bank loan. The 2010/2011 annual tuition at Duquesne Academy is $18,900, but if you pay in full by July, you receive a discount of $1,000. You also have the option of making two payments or paying in nine monthly installments.

St. Pius X (stpiusx.org) is a coed catholic high school in Houston. In addition to a variety of advanced placement classes, St. Pius X offers students opportunities to participate in student clubs such as X-box Club, Respect Life, language clubs, band and art. Freshman and sophomore students receive college counseling through their English classes. Junior and senior students can make appointments for individualized counseling services to help them prepare for college. Tuition for the 2010/ 2011 school year is $10,100, which can be paid in full or in monthly increments of $1,100 April through July.

Other options for Catholic high school education in the Houston area include Pope John XXIII High (pj23.org) located in Katy, a suburb of Houston, and Cristo Rey Jesuit College Prep (cristoreyjesuit.org), for ninth and tenth graders. Both schools offer a coed environment. Counselors are available at Pope John to help students prepare for college and navigate the college application process. Students at Cristo Rey prepare for college while gaining work experience through the school's work study program. According to the school's website, student participation in the work study program also pays for 70 percent of the $9,750 tuition. The 2010/2011 tuition rate at Pope John is $11,500, and a sibling who attends receives a discount of $2,300.
