Ideas for an Animated Cake Design

Animated cakes are unique designs that incorporate some type of movement or animation. While cakes are typically the center piece of a celebration and a work of art. You will find that people will not want to eat the animated cake because of how interesting and beautiful it looks. Animated cakes use small electrical devices that produce the power for the movement.

Holidays

Create a cake based for specific holidays and add animation. A cake for Christmas can contain a snowflake animation. Create the animation so that with a touch of your finger to the base of the cake the snowflakes will move, either rotating around the cake or moving up and down to simulate snowfall. Halloween cakes offer abundant spots for animation as a smoke generator can be put in house chimneys to create smoke. A small plasma globe can be used for a witch's brew. Bats and ghosts can be flying around the cake and much more.

Games

Create an animated cake based on a game. For instance create a cake based off of wheel of fortune. The cake is the wheel and can rotate on the base. There is a wheel of fortune board and stand where the contestants stand. The candles function as the pegs for each of the individual sections of the wheel. A super Mario bros cake can have Super Mario and Luigi running along a track on the cake or have other characters from the video game in movement on the cake, using a spring to keep a figure bouncing in movement is a simple animation. Any game can be turned into an animated cake.

Sports

Sports are very fluid and moving and therefore a sports cake can take advantage of this movement and use animation. Use water pumps and air pumps to create liquid effects for cakes that require water, such as fishing cakes or kayaking and rafting cakes. Team sports, such as basketball or baseball can have animations that deal with the game as the cake is set up like the playing field. Have the batter rotate in position or a ball move along a specific track. Create a cake to look like the top of a mountain and have a skier move down the mountain on a specific track.

Animals

Animals offer many different choices for cake animations. Cakes that are shaped like insects or have insects on them can have eyes open and shut or wings open and close. A dinosaur cake can have the mouth open and close or dinosaur limbs mowing. Dogs can have tongue out and tails wagging. Have birds flying around an object on the cake. In order to achieve this movement a small electric generator or Lego motor is needed with a piece of support material on the interior of the cake to create moving parts. It may take a few tries to get this right, if you do not have experience with animated cakes.
