Bright colors, tasty food and enjoyable activities should all be part of a baby shower. And if you're planning a shower for a loved one, it's a good idea to think outside the box and organize an event that the guest of honor will truly appreciate. Elaborate themes and interactive outings are just a few ideas that will make this shower one to remember.
"Queen for a Day" Theme
Give your best friend a shower that will make her feel like a queen -- and especially loved. Feature regal colors, such as aubergine, burgundy, gold or silver. Serve guests minicucumber sandwiches. Make sugar cookies in the shape of a crown, and top them with silver or gold icing.
Or hold a dinner party baby shower and present her with a fanciful meal. Serve lemonade spritzers with fresh berries. Decorate the space with purple, silver and blue tulle, and spray the table centerpieces with glitter to make them look especially festive. Present the guest of honor with a tiara, and decorate her chair with satin ribbons and synthetic jewels before presenting her with her gifts.
Baby Shower Luau
Throw a baby shower with a luau theme if the expectant mother loves tropical weather and has always wanted to visit Hawaii. Present each guest with a lei as she arrives, and do a special lei for the guest of honor. Festoon the lei with synthetic flowers in her favorite color, pacifiers sprayed with glitter and baby booties. Prepare a fruit tray filled with slices of pineapple, papaya and grapes, and fire up the grill to prepare dishes like teriyaki salmon and steaks for the guests. Hire professional hula dancers to perform, and ask them to teach the mom-to-be and your guests how to do the hula.
Mommy's Day Out Shower
Instead of having a baby shower at someone's home, invite the guest of honor and girlfriends out for a day of shopping and lunch. Make reservations at your friend's favorite restaurant, and ask some guests to bring special desserts like minicookies or cupcakes, which can also be used as party favors. Then take the guest of honor to her favorite department store so she can choose a few fashionable maternity items and to a baby boutique or toy store so you and your friends can purchase baby pillows, blankets and toys for the little one. This turns the shower into a social event, and you won't have to worry about the mother-to-be not liking her gifts.
Spa Baby Shower
Provide a way for your guests to relax with you at a spa-themed baby shower. Hire a professional massage therapist or manicurist to provide these services, and create a menu of mineral water with cucumber slices, bowls of fresh fruit with mint leaves, cucumber sandwiches and fresh vegetable salads with shredded carrots, broccoli and Romaine lettuce. Play relaxing music, and scent your home with lavender, chamomile or vanilla while you, the mommy-to-be and all of your guests socialize.
